Hey there, if you’re reading these blogs I’d gather you’re interested in your own health so I thought it would be good to cover some basics on what will have an impact on it. One thing I repeatedly fine in clinic is a client coming in with excruciating pain and saying “but I didn’t do anything, it just appeared and I guess it’s just old age and there’s nothing can be done!” NO!! it’s time to explore the whole picture and the incredible interplay of Trauma, Toxins, and Thoughts and how these all influence each other, leading to those pesky subluxations that you can read about here.
TRAUMA – The Physical Manifestation
Trauma refers to the physical experiences that our bodies endure throughout life. This could be anything from an unfortunate accident to years of bad posture or repetitive moments. Even birth itself can be a bit of a rollercoaster ride! Some of these are unavoidable for some people. If you are working at a desk all day that is definitely going to have a negative impact, as well as sleeping on your stomach, or crossing your legs (no point in denying it, we all have a preferred one to cross over). It might be little habits that we don’t give much importance to, but think of the impact they have on you if you are doing them every day for year and years. These physical traumas can mess with the alignment and movement of our spines causing those notorious subluxations. And If you’ve read the blog linked above you’ll know that at that point our nervous system is not going to be happy.
TOXINS – The Hidden Culprits
Oh I could go on for ages talking about this one. The least obvious one. Toxins ….. they are EVERYWHERE! Hiding in processed foods, lurking in the air we breathe, in the water we drink and even in our negative emotions. You see, most people don’t realise the extent we have to go through to actually avoid toxins just in what we eat. Pesticides? GMO? Hormones? Microplastics? I grew up in Italy where we only eat fresh produce, in season, nothing is processed, mountain spring water. Moving to the UK was one of the hardest transitions for my body, my hormones got completely messed up, I could not control my weight. My body was wasting so much energy trying to get rid of all of these new foreign organisms that my whole immune system started being affected by it. Not only that but my whole body started feeling generally more tense and again more and more subluxations. Do you want to start looking at other things that are holding your health back? Look into what you eat!
THOUGHTS – The Power of the mind
Remember that saying “mind over matter”‘? Turns out it’s not just a catchy phrase. Our thoughts, beliefs, and emotional state have incredible power over our health. When we’re positive, upbeat, and rocking that healthy mindset, we’re paving the way for wellness. But let’s face it, stress, anxiety, and negative thought patterns can be troublemakers. They create tension, mess with your nerves, and as you may have guessed by now, subluxations start knocking on your door. If you want to know more about the Sympathetic (fight, Flight Survive) and Parasympathetic (rest, Digest, Repair) systems have a read at the blog where I explain their role and importance.
How can Chiropractic care help?
Surely there are many causes to all of these problems which should be tackled individually, chiropractic can be a good start to the process of regaining balance and control over your health. By insuring that your nervous system is working at its optimum potential your brain will be more in control of the organs that need to detoxify your body, maintain that good balance between fight/flight/survive and rest/digest/repair and maintain the structural function of your body. Once the nervous system is handling everything at its best potential it is up to us to treat our bodies the way they deserve to and get ready for a life filled with vitality!
Ciao for now!
